Our Heat Pump |
All About Me! |
The purpose of this page is to document maintenance, repairs and overall costs for operating our York split-system heat pump.
In 1999, we added on to our house. Due to the nature of the addition, we determined that it should have a separate heating and cooling system.
The system was installed in August 1999 by Dan Inman Electric, Inc.
Here are some of the specifications:
The original system came with a washable filter. That has since been replaced by a disposable filter.
2006 July 28 - The addition was very warm. I found that the circuit breaker for the outdoor unit was tripped. I reset it.
2006 July 29 - The circuit breaker has tripped several more times.
Since the outdoor unit was no longer level, I adjusted the blocks under it. I also replaced the insulation on the pipe from the wall of the house to the unit. That had no affect on the circuit breaker tripping.
2006 July 30 - The circuit breaker continues to trip. At first, I could reset it and all would be ok for a while. But the frequency of tripping increased to where we could no longer reliably run the system. One observation was that the longer the system seemed to be off, the longer it would run once turned back on.
2006 July 31 - I called Dan Inman Electric, Inc. A technician came out and tested various aspects of the heat pump. All of the tests appeared to be normal. During the testing, a transformer in the air handler stopped working. He replaced it and continued with the testing. The suspicion turned to the circuit breaker. It felt slightly warm. Since the technician didn't have a new circuit breaker with him, I decided I'd replace it later.
I went to Lowe's and purchased a Square D, 2 pole, 20 amp circuit breaker. The cost was $15.87 including tax.
I replaced the breaker without turning off the main breaker. Even though I hadn't done this myself before, I was confident I could do it since I had seen others do it.
So far, everything seems back to normal...
